Quick checks
- The Mac is awake and hosting. Open PocketCtrl on the Mac and confirm the Hosting panel shows it is running. A sleeping Mac cannot answer.
- Screen Recording and Accessibility are allowed on the Mac. Both live in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Quit and reopen PocketCtrl after changing them.
- Local Network is allowed on your iPhone or iPad. Open Settings, choose PocketCtrl, and turn on Local Network. Without it, iOS blocks every nearby connection and PocketCtrl shows “Local Network access is off”.
- Both devices share a network. Same Wi-Fi is enough; Tailscale is only needed between different networks. If you use Tailscale, turn it on on both devices and make sure they are in the same tailnet.
- The device is approved on the Mac. If the Mac shows the device as not approved, or you removed it, pair again with a fresh QR code or Computer Code.
Detailed help
The help center explains every step and every message in plain language. Start with Fix connection problems, which walks through the checklist in order, or jump to Are my devices on the same network?, Pairing explained, Permissions, or Tailscale troubleshooting.
Setup guides
- Install PocketCtrl on your Mac and grant the two macOS permissions.
- Set up Tailscale on both devices for connections between networks. Optional.
- Download the Mac app and read the update steps.
